Bonding with Relatives from the Nieva Clan of the Philippines and the US

Memories of Bonding with the Nieva Clan Relatives from the Philippines and the US

Hosting Tita Charing for Dinner at the Manila Hotel during Our trip to PI in 1970

(From Left to Right: Me, Macrine, Tita Charing, David III, Dinah, Dodie, Ditas and the kids-Yaya)

The recent article of Bing Carrion on the legacy of her mother( Consistency) published in the Tribune triggered memories of her Mother ( Tita Charing). Tita Charing stayed with us for a few weeks in Modesto, California in the early 1970's.

At that time she was residing with Puchi, her oldest daughter in San Bruno, California. She informed us she needed a break and short vacation, so Macrine( RIP) and I invited her to stay with us as long as she likes. During her stay we toured her around the area ( Gallo Winery and Yosemite National Park) and visited some of her relatives(Carrion side) in Lodi, California. We got to know her better and Macrine bonded once again with her.

Another relative from the Nieva clan that we hosted was Tito Will, father of Yong and Oskie Nieva. I do not remember exactly what year it was, but it was also during our residency in Modesto ( 1970-1974). Tito Will was visiting Yong in Daly City. One day he decided to visit us in Modesto. Macrine picked him up and they went to Napa Valley for a tour and wine tasting. Both of them were a little bit tipsy from all the wine they consumed that they got lost on their way home. The incident kept them laughing all the way home. Going home they were supposed to go East, but they realized they were lost when they were driving West because of the sunset. They turned around and arrived safely. The next day I drove Tito Will to SFO airport. I accompany him all the way to his boarding gate, because he was a little scared he will get lost again in the airport. He was very grateful that I accompanied him all the way and stayed with him until boarding. He was on his way to visit another son residing in New York.

Another of Macrine's relatives who visited us was Tito Puring Bernabe( at that time he was the Mayor of Paranaque, Rizal) , his wife(Tita Mameng Mayuga) and their daughter(Jeanette) way back in 1969 when we were residents of Kansas City, Missouri. They stayed with us for a couple of days. I still have a photo of him riding my lawn mower. We toured them shopping and site seeing in the neighborhood.

The most recent visit of Macrine's relatives was with Tia Teresa Feria Nieva, Ronie Nieva and family and Pepe Nieva at our beach house ( Chateau Du Mer) in Marinduque on January, 2013. The following two photos triggered pleasant memories of their stay.

Macrine and I had fun hosting the visit of Veronica (Ronie ) Nieva Ettinger and family, Pepi Nieva and husband John Brown and their mother, Tia Teresa Feria Nieva widow of Tony Nieva, first cousin of Macrine's mother in January, 2013.

They stayed for a week enjoying the sights and sounds of Marinduque and visiting relatives. Ronie and Pepi are grand daughters of Gregorio Nieva, younger brother of Juan Nieva, Macrine's grand father.

Rest In Peace, Macrine, Tita Charing, Tito Will, Tito Puring, Tita Mameng, Tia Teresa and Steve Ettinger!
